Job Description

3rd Street Youth Center & Clinic is a community-based agency providing youth in the Bayview Hunters Point with medical and behavioral health services that encourage them to make decisions that support their health, safety, and development. The 3rd Street Youth Leadership & Policy Analyst works within our Youth Development department to both facilitate our 3rd Street Leadership Academy (3LA) and to stay attuned to political issues most impacting the youth that we serve. The Youth Leadership & Policy Analyst will focus on building up youths' political engagement and advocacy skills, while helping youth to learn more about the issues that are most important to them. This position will be an interlocutor between the youth we serve and our agency's policy/political direction. Youth Programming Manage and facilitate our 3rd Street Leadership Academy (3LA), a program for youth ages 12-18 interested in growing their leadership and change-making skills: including but not limited to attendance tracking, creating and adjusting lesson plans, working with finance to ensure stipends are tracked & paid, interfacing with parents, suggest creative activities to help youth learn core organizational issues, & proactively addressing any issues that may arise with the program or its participants Provide engaging workshops and meetings to youth on a wide range of topics related to civic engagement, political advocacy, social and environmental issues related to health, social justice, and politics more broadly. Continually update core curriculum for the 3LA program & integrate political current events changes into curriculum Recruit program participants including partnering with schools and community organizations to increase participation and knowledge of 3 rd street programming Collect program data and maintain excellent recordkeeping Use outcomes data to guide quality improvements and program adjustments. Ensure timely and complete submission of monthly funder reports. Enforce youth safety policies according to organizational policies and procedures Set development goals for each cohort and individual participants and evaluate progress with Director of Policy Policy Analysis and Advocacy Keep up to date with San Francisco politics and policy changes via media, local legislation tracking and presses releases in coordination with the Director of Policy, especially on issues impact the youth we serve Research and draft briefing documents, present and share informational materials, and serve as a public representative of department and agency Track political issues of significance for the agency as they impact the lives and wellbeing of those we serve and suggest strategy in coordination with Director of Policy and CEO Attend hearings, meetings, and public forums addressing issues related to the mission of the organization or legislative matters where the organization or coalition members are affected especially but not limited to the topics of TAY behavioral & physical health, housing, immigration and youth development. Represent, communicate and protect the organization's interests in legislative proceedings and in the development of policy and procedures Ability to train youth for advocacy alongside Director of Policy Provide appropriate resources, referrals, and other supports such as individual advocacy to youth participants Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to build healthy relationships with youth while upholding appropriate boundaries. Ability to connect with and show respect and care for youth, especially those at high risk. Ability to work with high-risk youth, clients, and volunteers. Ability to work with a diverse staff and excel in a diverse, youth-serving environment. Ability to work with minimal to moderate supervision. Ability to prioritize and exercise consistent, sound judgment with a proactive, problem-solving approach. Ability to maintain a professional demeanor, exercising discretion, integrity, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to maintain a cooperative, team-building approach to work with a focus on creative and constructive solutions. Ability to multi-task with the capacity to learn quickly and integrate efficiently. Demonstrated ability to communicate complex topics in a fun and engaging manner for youth aged 12-18. Ability to independently manage schedules to ensure presence at necessary hearings and programming. Working knowledge of issues facing youth. Working knowledge of San Francisco politics. Strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality and demonstrating high ethical standards. Awareness of and commitment to the organization’s mission, with the ability to communicate its impact and identify community needs to funders. Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning. Knowledge of and interest in San Francisco politics and policy. Excellent prioritization, facilitation, and youth engagement skills. Flexibility with a team player mentality. Self-starter with excellent follow-through skills. Proficiency with Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office. Education & Experience High school diploma and at least two years of related experience, or Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with diverse groups of youth, including youth considered high risk and experiencing homelessness. Experience facilitating or educating groups. Experience with political advocacy, political campaigns, and community organizing. Experience working directly on political campaigns, community organizing campaigns, or political bodies in San Francisco a plus. Bilingual Spanish a plus. Licenses & Certifications Valid California Driver's License and clean driving record required General info This position is a non-exempt and full-time role. This position is based on-site at our San Francisco Bayview/Hunter's Point neighborhood and will travel off-site. Compensation and benefits This position has a salary of $70,000.
