SUMMARY:

We are currently seeking a talented, resourceful, confident candidate to join our team as a Strings Instrument Technician for our Service and Repairs Department. Reporting to the Service and Repairs Manager, the String Instrument Technician is responsible for the repair, maintenance and quality control of acoustic and electric guitars, basses, banjos, and mandolins.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspect, diagnose, and perform repairs on a wide variety of stringed instruments, including acoustic and electric guitars, basses, banjos, and mandolins
  • Execute maintenance tasks such as restringing, fretwork, setup adjustments, electronics troubleshooting, neck alignment, and hardware replacements
  • Conduct quality control inspections to ensure all serviced instruments meet Jam Industries' standards for playability, appearance, and safety
  • Document all repairs and services performed using internal tracking systems; maintain accurate service records
  • Communicate effectively with internal departments (sales, warehousing, customer service) to coordinate instrument intake, status updates, and return logistics
  • Stay current on new instrument models, repair techniques, and product updates provided by manufacturers or internal training
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe workbench and shop area
  • Support team members with technical guidance or overflow repair tasks during peak periods

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2 - 3 years of previous experience repairing stringed instruments;
  • Degree from a technical school, with specialization in musical instruments an asset;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications;
  • Strong communications skills (written/verbal) and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated organizational ability and follow-through;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously in a team as well as autonomously;
  • Strong attention to detail.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to lift at least 40-50 lbs without assistance, using proper lifting techniques and/or with assistance of a pallet jack;
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time to perform repairs

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is primarily performed in a climate-controlled workshop within a warehouse or distribution facility
  • Exposure to common workshop tools and materials, including soldering equipment, woodworking tools, solvents, and cleaning agents
  • Fast-paced environment with frequent handling of high-value musical instruments requiring precision and care
  • Noise levels may vary depending on testing and repair activities (e.g., instrument amplification, use of power tools)
  • Interaction with cross-functional teams including warehousing, customer service, and sales
  • Occasional flexibility required to accommodate shipping deadlines or high-volume repair cycles
