Job Description
Special Education Teacher
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing individualized instruction and support to students with exceptional needs in accordance with federal, state, and district regulations. This role focuses on developing and implementing effective educational programs that promote student growth, independence, and success in both academic and functional areas.
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) based on student assessments, goals, and objectives.
Provide direct instruction in academic, behavioral, and social-emotional areas using research-based strategies and differentiated methods.
Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and families to ensure students receive appropriate accommodations and modifications.
Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals using data-driven methods.
Maintain compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and other applicable federal and state laws.
Manage classroom behavior through positive behavioral supports and restorative practices.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, eligibility determinations, and IEP review sessions.
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student performance and progress.
Utilize technology and assistive tools to support instruction and engagement.
Maintain accurate records and complete all required reports and documentation in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or related field.
Valid state teaching certification in Special Education.
Knowledge of special education laws, IEP processes, and best practices in differentiated instruction.
Strong classroom management and communication skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and families.
Preferred Skills:
Experience working with students across mild to moderate or moderate to severe disabilities.
Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), PBIS, or restorative practices.
Proficiency in data collection and progress monitoring software.
