Collins Aerospace seeks a visionary, action-oriented person to define and develop the next generation of model-based engineering approaches, tools and technologies as part of a team focused on digital engineering methods for safety-critical, intelligent, Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). The team is part of the Collins Aerospace Advanced Methods Department, within the Applied Research and Technology organization, working with Collins product teams and external research sponsors to extend both the state of the art and the practice of MBE methods. The MBE Sr. Principal Engineer will define new or modify current engineering processes based on MBE practices; develop novel methods and tools to provide product differentiation and enable the development of Collins' next-generation systems and products. Current projects include creating and demonstrating MBE methods and tools for embedded and cyber-physical system development and operation, leveraging technologies such as scenario formalization, architectural modeling, model-based safety analysis, virtual integration, CPS simulation, communication networks modeling, digital twinning, MB techniques for AI components, and Data Science, AI, extended reality capabilities. The ideal candidate has a proven record of innovation, technical leadership, excellent communication skills, teamwork, critical thinking, and experience securing S&T and government funding that complements internal technology investments. The candidate will join a diverse, geographically distributed team across the US and Europe. Primary Responsibilities Explore, develop, and apply Model Based Engineering practices and tools for aerospace system conception, design, verification, validation, and operation. Market innovative technology offerings to external customers, aligning development with their priorities and influencing interests for both internal and government clients. Coordinate with engineering and program teams to realize product advantages from technical advancements. Mature and transition transformative technologies to industrial units, bridging research and application. Support the development of the MBE team strategy in collaboration with discipline and department leaders. Manage project execution for an international, distributed team of technologists. Basic Qualifications University Degree (or equivalent experience) with at least 10 years of experience, or an Advanced Degree with at least 8 years of experience. Experience as a senior technologist in an industrial R&D environment. Experience developing safety- or security-critical cyber-physical systems methods. Proven ability to lead successful research initiatives. Excellent communication skills, including working with international teams. Understanding of IP protection and export control in solution development. Experience securing external R&D contracts. Ability to travel at least 10% of the time. U.S. Person (Citizen or Green Card holder). Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree (MS, PhD) in a relevant technical discipline. Engineering skills, including formal methods. Experience with Collins-relevant product domains. Experience with software tool architecture, prototyping, and automation. Leadership in research demonstrations with minimal requirements. Full product cycle experience in safety-critical Cyber-Physical Systems. Experience in agile environments. 5+ years in aerospace and defense products. Strong business and analytical skills. Experience with agile methods like SAFe, SCRUM.
