Job Summary

The Senior Investigator is responsible for maintaining current knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, best practices, and investigative methods regarding workplace investigations, organizational issues, employee misconduct, and regulatory compliance for workplace violence related issues.

Incumbent will conduct administrative employee misconduct investigations as assigned and provide counsel and training to supervisors and managers regarding prevention, response, and investigation of workplace violence, bullying, incivility, and other organizational issues. Incumbent will also be assigned other duties and projects related to Investigations and compliance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training in Public Policy or Human Resources related discipline
  • Significant experience in Human Resources, Law, and/or Compliance, including experience in a Human Resources role with a focus on employee relations and investigations.
  • Experience interacting with potentially hostile individuals in an investigative setting.
  • Experience and working knowledge of de-escalation techniques.
  • Proven project or data management skills and experience managing multiple projects in a highly regulatory environment.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal administrative agencies and their roles in complaint processes, Including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Department of Fair Employment Housing (DFEH), Office of the Federal Compliance Program (OFCCP), Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), considering alternative solutions and consequences, and proposing solutions.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret Federal and State laws, rules and regulations concerning public employment and workplace violence.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills to work independently with all levels of University personnel, including management and faculty.
  • Exceptional tact, diplomacy, discretion, professionalism and judgment in communications and decision making.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in analytical and legal writing to produce accurate, useful reports and summaries.
  • Demonstrated skills in conveying facts, analysis, conclusions and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.
  • Possess strong analytical skills and experience to research and interpret data; ability to write cogent and persuasive reports.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations at all levels of the organization, including faculty, senior administrators, legal representatives, Office of the President personnel, and external agency representatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Public Policy or Human Resources related discipline and/or Juris Doctorate
  • Extensive experience working in an academic and/or health care setting.
  • Significant experience in training and education development and deployment.
  • Advanced knowledge of health care ethics and compliance and professional compliance and standards.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Violence standards and regulations

The Employee and Labor Relations Investigator's primary responsibility is to investigate reports of suspected violations of University policy, including workplace violence incidents, and conduct confidential workplace investigations under the supervision of the Investigations Manager.
