Senior Clinical Informatics Consultant

The Senior Clinical Informatics Consultant supports the initiatives of the Clinical Informatics team and Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO) Office, working in close collaboration with clinical users, Clinical Informaticists, and Information Management (IM) to foster improvements in care through utilization of the electronic health record (EHR). Applies expertise in the use of technology to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of care delivery processes and outcomes, through the implementation of improvements in clinical information systems to support clinical care delivery. Understands patient care, human factors, and process improvement methodologies, and applies knowledge toward effective design, development, and implementation of clinical informatics tools. The Senior Clinical Informatics Consultant serves as a liaison between IM and clinical staff, and reports to the Manager, Clinical Informatics.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Supports Lurie Children's Clinical Informatics program, adhering to national standards and best practices, and incorporating customer feedback and performance data.
  • Collaborates with Clinical Informatics leadership to identify and prioritize informatics-related initiatives and improvements aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Analyzes clinical care processes for potential areas of improvement, creating targeted action plans for optimizing performance and utilization of key clinical informatics tools.
  • Applies strong analytical skills to gather information from users, define work problems and develop improvements supported by technology, including measurement of outcomes related to the intervention.
  • Contributes to the design and implementation of EHR interventions that enhance workflow efficiency, promote effective use of system functionality, and ensure accurate, structured capture of clinical data.
  • Reviews documentation for upgrades and system updates as they pertain to clinical informatics activities. Evaluates possible changes and impacts in collaboration with IM and Clinical Informatics leadership.
  • Collaborates with Epic Training Team on the tools and resources available to help clinicians effectively use the EHR. Supports the dissemination of resources through the CMIO Office.
  • Supports Medical Center priorities by implementing informatics-related initiatives and driving improvements in processes and systems.
  • Maintains and disseminates guidelines and best practices related to clinical informatics and priority initiatives.
  • Drives adoption and effective use of technologies among providers to enhance clinical workflows and patient care.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of project management methodologies. Participates in project initiatives as directed. Independently leads clinical informatics projects.
  • Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in health informatics or a health-related field preferred.
  • Current Epic certification in clinical module required, or ability to complete certification within six (6) months of employment.
  • Minimum 5 years of informatics or healthcare IT experience with healthcare informatics preferred.
  • Demonstrated self-direction with excellent organizational, analytical, writing, problem solving and interpersonal skills a must.
  • Must be able to evaluate, document and recommend improvement for clinical workflow.
  • Proficiency in presenting, communicating, and interacting effectively with medical staff and management at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent project management and business analysis skills. Experience with process improvement methods, e.g. DMAIC, PDSA, Lean, Six Sigma, etc. is desired.
  • Familiarity with data management and basic reporting including interpreting, comprehending, and summarizing statistical and medical data.

Pay Range

$99,840.00-$164,736.00

Salary At Lurie Children's, we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity, reflecting individual contributions, experience, and expertise. The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position. Ranges are regularly reviewed to stay aligned with market conditions. In addition to base salary, Lurie Children's offer a comprehensive rewards package that may include differentials for some hourly employees, leadership incentives for select roles, health and retirement benefits, and wellbeing programs.
