Job Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Coach specializing in Political Science and Data Analysis to guide students through advanced research projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in political science, data science, and academic writing, with the ability to provide rigorous methodological and editorial support. This role requires a blend of mentorship, subject matter expertise, and practical guidance in quantitative research methods and scholarly communication. Responsibilities: Academic Coaching and Mentorship: Provide one-on-one academic mentorship to guide students in identifying strengths, reducing stress, and overcoming academic challenges. Offer expert guidance on improving the organization, clarity, and academic rigor of research papers, assisting with refining arguments, methodology, and overall structure for publication. Support students in identifying appropriate academic journals for submission and navigating scholarly publishing conventions. Guide students through existing datasets and assist in transitioning from previous research endeavors. Facilitate independent study of programming languages (e.g., R) and provide support in understanding and developing code for data analysis. Collaborate with students to identify and integrate new data, reconfigure datasets, and perform quantitative analysis to address novel research questions. Support students in the entire research paper writing process, from developing research questions and conducting literature reviews to data analysis and drafting scholarly papers. Provide effective coaching in academic writing, including structuring arguments, methodology, and results sections. Foster critical thinking, independent research skills, and manage regular meetings with clear expectations and deadlines. Complete comprehensive training programs to effectively identify and address students' individual strengths and weaknesses. Qualifications: Eligibility: Proficiency in multiple core subject areas at a high-school level. The ability to teach some high-school science is a big plus. Have a willingness to work evenings and weekends to meet objectives. Ability to commit to part-time tutoring for at least 1 year. Availability of at least 5 hours per week. Currently enrolled in or recently completed graduate studies (Master's or Ph.D.) in a relevant field (e.g., Political Science, Data Science, Quantitative Social Science). Experience: Tutoring and/or test prep experience is a plus. Strong foundation in Political Science, Data Science, and/or Quantitative Social Science Research Methods. Demonstrated experience working with and managing large datasets. Proven track record in academic writing, evidenced by publications, successful theses/dissertations, or substantial research reports. Experience in the full research lifecycle, from conceptualization and literature review to data analysis, writing, and submission. Familiarity with the journal submission process in political science or related social sciences. Prior experience in mentoring or tutoring students in academic research and writing. Familiarity with topics related to electoral systems, political representation, gender and politics, local government, and public policy is highly desirable. Education: Bachelor’s degree from a nationally accredited university. Knowledge and Skills: A high level of energy and sociability. Exceptional writing ability. Strong proficiency in R programming for data cleaning, manipulation, analysis, and visualization. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad spectrum of people, including executives, students, and other coaches. Ability to work independently yet dutifully within the company's pedagogy and processes. Apply relentless dedication to delivering results.
