This position serves as a Physical Security Specialist within the Justice Protective Service Operations Section, Security and Emergency Planning Staff (SEPS), which is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining department-wide policy and security programs, as well as coordinating and administering the physical security operations program. The incumbent is responsible for executing the functions and administering the security regulations prescribed by law and Executive Orders. This Physical Security Specialist position has a SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR requirement that must be met in order to be considered: Completion of a civilian or military police academy certificate and at least one-year experience as a certified law enforcement officer. As a Physical Security Specialist, you may be responsible for: Plan and implement physical security protective methods and procedures on systems such as intrusion detection systems and devices, safes, personnel entry control systems, and locking systems. Conduct facility assessments to evaluate security risk and threat. Coordinate with other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and property management personnel. Monitor performance and verify compliance of a Departments guard service contracts. Identify and advise management of potential physical security problems. Salary $82,764 - $128,956/year Conditions of Employment You must be a United States Citizen or National. You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check which includes a drug screening. You may be required to complete a one-year probationary or two-year trial period. Selective Service registration is required for males born on or after December 31st, 1959. Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file. Qualifications To qualify for the position of Physical Security Specialist at (GS-0080-11/12), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade you're applying to. If you are a current or former government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. To Qualify for GS-0080-11: Specialized Experience: For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Assist in implementing security procedures or protective methods; 2) Perform law enforcement duties for the protection of personnel or property; and 3) Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of existing security practices or procedures. OR Education : A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M, if related; OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and specialized experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. You must have some specialized experience as described above in number 1 but less than one year; and have more than two years, but less than three years of education as described in number 2. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year by 36. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. To Qualify for GS-0080-12: Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Assist in planning the implementation of security procedures or protective methods; 2) Perform law enforcement duties for the protection of personnel or property; and 3) Provide recommendations to improve existing security practices or procedures.
