Job Description
Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Director of the Arts Academy, the Classroom Music teacher provides instruction in basic musical concepts through group activity-based classes. The classroom music teacher will provide exciting lessons for elementary classes, using progressive teaching techniques for children. The Arts Academy Elementary Music Teacher will provide professional instruction to students ages 6 - 12, and will teach with knowledge and expertise.
Work schedule will depend on the number of classes being offered and assigned for the semester. Candidate will need to have both morning and afternoon availability.
Minimum Requirements: - Undergraduate degree in Music or related field required and experience in teaching elementary classroom music preferred.
- Demonstrating a knowledge of, and experience in classroom music skills, such as rhythm instrument proficiency, basic piano skills, singing skills and general musicianship.
- Knowledge of Elementary Music methods and curriculum. (Certifications such as Orff and Kodaly preferred, but not mandatory).
- Knowledge of music appropriate for elementary age children and our Christian ideals at UMHB.
- Must exemplify excellent classroom management skills.
- Must be able to demonstrate all skills that will be taught in the classroom.
- Experience in leading elementary classes in performances and event participation.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and work independently as needed.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; good communication and excellent time management.
- Must be able to perform physical requirements necessary for teaching children's music such as bending, sitting on the floor, movement, dancing/running and skipping.
