Job Description

Glenelg Country School in Howard County, MD seeks a Middle School Social Studies teacher for the 2025-2026 school year to begin August 2025.  The ideal candidate is an energetic and creative educator who demonstrates enthusiasm for working with students in grades 6-8, possesses a passion for history/social studies, contributes to a positive school culture, and emphasizes building relationships with students, staff, and the school community. The ability to develop and implement daily lessons that are both rigorous and engaging, strong interpersonal skills, and a willingness to collaborate are musts. The Middle School Social Studies teacher teaches four sections of History/Social Studies, advises a small group of students, coaches a team and/or sponsors an activity each trimester, and performs other duties within the Middle School as part of a grade-level team and the humanities department. Education and Experience

A B.A. or B.S. is required and a master’s degree in a related field is a plus. The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in history or a related concentration and experience working with middle or high school students.

  • Technology –Proficient with Office 365 and related Microsoft applications or similar; able to maintain course pages and online gradebook within the Student Management System.

  • Organizational –Creates action plans to meet divisional goals and objectives. Conducts periodic reviews of progress and measures against goals.
  • Written and Oral Communication –Communicates respectfully, effectively, and in adherence to community guidelines.
  • Problem Solving Skills –Considers a broad range of internal and external factors when solving problems. Grasps complexities and perceives relationships between different problems or issues.

Compensation Range: $50,000 – $70,000. GCS offers a robust benefits package including health insurances, retirement plan, and generous leave and holidays.
