Position Description

The position reports to the Senior Federal Policy Analyst, Government Affairs and Media Relations, and provides logistical and administrative support to the Government Affairs and Media Relations (GAMR) Center including responding to member inquiries, preparing materials, creating presentations, and talking points.

Government Affairs

Coordinates distribution and assists with maintenance of grassroots advocacy campaign alerts and resources and federal child nutrition regulations/notices.

• Uses the SNA database to maintain accurate Hill, regulatory agency, state agency, and allied organization contact lists.
• Assists with the monitoring and tracking of State/Federal child nutrition legislation, regulation and alerts GAMR Center on all activities.
• Assists with the drafting of articles, updates and social media posts on SNA legislative, regulatory and grassroots-related content.
• Assists with State policy tracking and reports to members on trends and development.
• Coordinates content from GAMR staff for inclusion in SNA’s weekly Tuesday Morning policy newsletter and additional SNA publications as needed.
• Develops PowerPoint presentations, briefings, and background materials for members and staff as requested.
• Provides administrative support for the Legislative Action Conference and liaisons to the SNA Political Action Committee (PAC) Board, SNA State Agency Advisory Council and Public Policy and Legislation (PPL) Committee.
• Answers incoming calls and emails to the advocacy@schoolnutrition.org inbox, fulfills routine requests, and provides information

Public Relations (PR)

• Assists with the preparation of PR materials, including press releases, web stories, and various media content as needed.
• Assists with creation of communications packets and document drafting as needed.
• Assists with the coordination and execution of various media events as needed.
• Edits and proofreads content and communications.
• Assists with research and preparation of materials for PR-related stories.

Position Relationships

• Works with SNA staff.
• Works with Association members, congressional and regulatory office staff, and allied organization staff.

Supervision

Receives frequent supervision and direction from the position’s supervisor. Uses independent judgment only for routine decisions.
