DescriptionPlaces patient in exam room and prepares him/her for examination/procedure by taking temperature, pulse, blood pressure and weight when necessary. Utilizes all available resources in the initial assessment of patient needs according to clinic specialist's protocol. Documents appropriately on record.Assists physician with exams and/or procedures. Removes sutures, provides wound care and cast removal. Additional duties as directed by physician.Administers medication with understanding of dosage, side effects, and allergic reactions. Functions as part of the Infusion/Injection Clinic team per protocol.Conducts pre-op screening for endoscopy procedures, ordering labs and giving instructions (ie. meds) to patients/family per protocol. Communicates with endoscopy and anesthesia staff any areas of concern.Prepares patient for procedure according to physician orders. Assists with endoscopy procedures. Monitors patients until ready for discharge. Identifies and provides patient education as directed by physician.Assists with orientation of new staff and Specialty Clinic physicians as needed.Working knowledge of multiple electronic medical record systems. Coordinates clinic independently, notifying main office when replacement staff is needed.Ensures proper containment/labeling of specimens. Delivers to lab with required documentation.Demonstrates ability to make effective nursing judgments including crisis/emergency situations. Maintains the role of patient advocate.Communicates potential problems/areas of concerns to appropriate staff and/or Manager.Works within the PACU/Surgery department as needed.Assists in all Specialty Clinics including Endoscopy, Infusion and Heart Station as needed.RequirementsGraduate of an accredited school of nursing, and currently licensed to practice in the state of Michigan. BLS required upon hire and maintained throughout employment. ACLS and PALS required within 90 days of employment and maintained throughout employment. Previous endoscopy and PACU experience preferred.
