Job Title: Drug Testing & Electronic Monitoring Technician – Elyria, Ohio

 

Department: Field Services

 

Supervisor: Director of Monitoring and Testing

 

Status: Non-exempt

 

Work Schedule: Full-time: M-F; 40 hours per week. Some nights and weekends result in overtime.

 

Compensation: $20.00 / hour. 150% overtime pay.

 

Benefits: Full time employee is eligible for health benefits and retirement plan.

 

Work Location: Office setting in Elyria, Ohio. Occasional work at other locations in the field like, jail or courthouse.

 

Business Travel Expense

Reimbursement Plan: Mileage reimbursement for business travel outside of the office.

Position Summary

Ohio AMS is an Electronic Monitoring and Drug Testing service provider. We provide equipment and servicing of body-worn electronic monitoring devices to our customers through structured programs as well as the management of drug testing programs. The Drug Testing Technician is responsible for overseeing the collection of urine samples from individuals ordered to participate in our drug testing program. This position also is responsible for the delivery of the test results, proper care and delivery of positive results to the laboratory for additional testing, and the input of data into the management software.

 

This position is also sometimes responsible for electronic monitoring service tasks including installations, maintenance, replacement and removal of body-worn alcohol monitoring and location tracking equipment. This position performs these tasks primarily in the Elyria office, but may also do so in public settings, such as courthouses, jails, other public locations, and may, on occasion, go to client homes within an assigned territory. This position also requires a working knowledge of all products offered by OAMS and the ability to install, maintain, and remove them as assigned. This position is reviewed through observation, conferences, customer reports, and annual evaluations.

 

Essential Duties

The Drug Testing & Electronic Monitoring Technician will perform the following general duties as outlined below:

  • Manage assigned case load efficiently
  • Conduct drug testing in a controlled environment
  • Directly observe the collection of urine samples from clients
  • Ensure that all policies and procedures for urine collection and testing are followed
  • Enter all results of testing into the management software
  • Attach, assign, replace all monitoring equipment using assigned direct connect equipment and software, ensuring a secure fit and equipment functionality
  • Perform equipment maintenance, routine or otherwise to check its functionality
  • Remove the monitoring equipment and return to inventory or deliver to other location following instructions
  • Ensure assigned clients receive and complete appropriate documentation
  • Coordinate the retrieval of equipment
  • Sterilize equipment before installing on another client; performing basic maintenance as needed to ensure optimal functionality
  • Accurately follow all equipment related policies and procedures
  • Document all client/client related contact, including any form of written correspondence, in SCRAMnet, Insight or other applicable software.
  • Adhere to all Ohio AMS Policies and Procedures
  • Track their own work hours
  • Other Duties as Assigned

 

 

Qualifications, Education and/or Experience

 

Education:

A candidate for the position of Drug Testing & Electronic Monitoring Technician must have a High School Diploma or its equivalent.

 

Experience:

Two (2) or more years’ experience in either Drug Testing, Electronic Monitoring, Criminal Justice or technician work is preferred. The education requirement may be waived for a candidate with six (6) or more years of related experience.

 

Other Qualifications:

The candidate must have reliable transportation and automobile insurance with a minimum of $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury and $100,000 property damage coverage.

A candidate for this position must have excellent interpersonal, organization, written and oral communication skills; ability to work reliably without close supervision; ability to exercise discretion and a sound non-judgmental approach while interacting with staff and customers, and the ability to calmly handle multiple assignments for multiple departments.

Typical Mental and Physical Demands

The candidate will split time between working at a computer at a desk and standing and interacting with clients. The candidate must be comfortable with the use of PPE, gloves and sanitizing solutions. Additionally, to be successful in this position one must be comfortable with conducting direct observed collection of urine samples in a secure restroom.

Proficiency with phone systems, computers, calculators, fax machines, copiers, telephone and a variety of other office/clerical equipment, computer database software and word processing software (Microsoft Word preferred) is necessary. Strong organizational skills, basic knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation and word definitions. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Ability to perform basic typing duties. Computer literate with proficiency in database management. Work requires continual attention to detail.

 

Cross-Training and Future Duties

It is the goal of Ohio AMS to cross training its employees to perform various essential functions of the organization's work to provide each employee the opportunity to learn new skills, to combat boredom and provide added value to their skill sets. Cross training also provides the organization with the ability to navigate extended leaves of absence without compromising customer service. It is the responsibility of each supervisor to determine, in conference with employees, how staff shall be cross-trained and in which skills and responsibilities. This position’s duties may change periodically and are subject to annual, or more frequent, modifications in accordance with changes within the territory.
