Position Summary:

Columbia Ability Alliance is seeking a Senior Accountant to oversee and maintain the general ledger accounting system, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial regulations. The Senior Accountant supports the financial operations for 5 non-profit mission services and 3 for-profit subsidiaries. This role is integral to the organization’s financial operations, supporting month-end and year-end close, reconciling accounts, preparing financial statements, and ensuring that all accounting procedures align with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reconcile sub-ledger to general ledger account balances.
Oversee payroll
Support month-end and year-end close processes.
Assist in the preparation of consolidated monthly financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements.
Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations.
Maintain and review general ledger accounts for accuracy.
Manage and reconcile fixed asset schedules.
Assist with budget preparation and perform monthly budget variance analyses.
Conduct internal control evaluations to ensure financial accuracy.
Prepare financial and regulatory reports as required by law, regulatory agencies, or management.
Participate in audits of company accounts and financial transactions for compliance with state and federal requirements.
Stay current on federal and state policies, accounting standards, and organizational policies.
File tax forms and regulatory reports, including sales tax, 1099s, census reports, payroll taxes, and property tax assessments.
Process wire transfers and maintain state and local business licensing.
Support leadership with financial insights and reporting as needed.
Perform bank reconciliations and credit card reconciliations
Perform other accounting-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum of five years of accounting experience (non-profit experience is a plus).
Strong understanding of GAAP, financial regulations, and internal controls.
Experience with budgeting, financial reporting, and cost control principles.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Ability to analyze complex financial documents and data.
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to prepare and file accurate tax reports.
Must pass a background check and drug screening.
