Child Protective Service Worker Associate Position Number(s): 0511P04056 | Counties of work: Berkeley | Seniority level: Entry level – Employment type: Full time. Child Protective Service Worker Associate will perform vital duties to support Child Protective Services Workers. This position is critical to the health and safety of West Virginia's children. Upon completion of an in‑house training program, recipients gather information and conduct interviews regarding abuse, neglect or exploitation of children. The role also assists with court petitions, transports, safety planning and other duties to support staff. Travel is required and may include on‑call duty during non‑traditional hours. Ongoing training is provided, as well as access to support services for the worker. The position is eligible for overtime pay. Applicants must have a valid WV driver's license and reliable transportation. Strong oral and written communication skills are required, along with the ability to maintain detailed case records. Successful completion of a background check is required. A valid driver's license is mandatory. Must be at least eighteen (18) years old and provide three letters of recommendation from persons not related to the applicant. A phone is also required. Responsibilities Attend and complete ongoing training to develop comprehensive knowledge of state and federal social welfare laws, rules, regulations, and evolving protocols regarding child abuse and neglect. Conduct investigations concerning allegations of abuse or neglect by talking with and visually observing affected individuals; interview family, relatives, neighbors, teachers, doctors, and others, and review pertinent records. Make an initial assessment of the validity of allegations and the degree of danger that children are in, documenting the results of investigations. Complete family assessments to determine dynamics and problems that may be precipitating abuse or neglect situations. Develop effective interventions to strengthen families that address safety, well‑being, and permanency of children. Prepare safety, service, and treatment plans to remedy contributing problems and stop behavior patterns of abuse/neglect/exploitation, soliciting family cooperation. File petitions with the court as needed to ensure the safety of children, testify before the court, and arrange appropriate placements of children—including staying with relatives, in foster homes, residential treatment facilities, or an emergency shelter. Transport children and clients as needed. Qualifications Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university. Be an honorably retired law enforcement officer or honorably retired parole officer or honorably retired federal or state probation officer. Valid driver's license. Accessible phone.
