POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Category Strategy Manager (CSM) is responsible for planning and developing the assigned Lifestyle category/section merchandising program. This includes establishing the merchandise assortment, buying program, and in-store presentations to achieve targeted sales, profit, and turnover. The CSM directs and controls product selection, promotion, and advertising plans, and formulates financial forecasts for sales and profit across all stores in respective categories’ operations. Essential Functions: Develop purchasing plans and programs to implement corporate policies & objectives. Develop additional or alternate sources of supply for important merchandise; secure sources for new or improved materials; maintain a list of approved Vendors. Develop strong business relationships with Vendors to achieve quality and pricing goals. Conduct negotiations to confirm costs, deliveries, specifications, and resolve discrepancies. Visit stores to check on merchandise assortment, displays, stock levels, and customer service; consult with respective Dept. Managers for issue resolution or improvement suggestions. Stay up to date on new product offerings/programs and conduct research to determine product demand, including possible travel for trade shows and market research. Maintain purchase records as required by the position and other departments. Approve invoices for payment and verify receipt of merchandise or services. Calculate retail prices considering various factors affecting sales. Generate reports to analyze and evaluate product performance. Control inventory and calculate turns to identify problems and implement measurable controls. Work with advertising and marketing to promote respective products and programs. Understand and abide by all corporate policies and procedures. Other Duties / Responsibilities: Position is exempt; hours are flexible based on business needs, typically M-F, but may require additional hours for inventory, special events, or travel. Maintain high ethical standards in the workplace. Communicate effectively with associates and management. Comply with all Health and OSHA requirements. Other tasks as assigned by the respective Division Manager.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Education & Experience: 2-year college degree preferred but not required. Strong work ethic with a positive attitude. Skills and Knowledge: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint). Understanding of costing, margin, and profitability. Knowledge of price elasticity and supply chain management. Able to multi-task and remain organized in a fast-paced environment. Certificates & Licenses: Driver’s license (with a good driver’s record). Language Ability: Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Ability to interact with all levels of management. Work Environment: Indoor (Artificial Lighting; Air Conditioned) Outdoor Moderate Noise Level
