Job Description

[About Us]

Shift Dynamics Inc. is at the forefront of developing cutting-edge defense technologies, including advanced unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), artificial intelligence (AI) systems, and autonomous flight platforms. We are committed to fostering innovation and pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the aerospace and defense sectors. We are seeking exceptionally talented and driven individuals to join our team and contribute to our mission of developing next-generation technologies.

[Position Overview]

We are seeking an experienced Perception Engineer with 5+ years of experience to join our Autonomous Flight Systems team. This role is focused on developing advanced perception modules that enable real-time understanding of complex environments for fully autonomous UAVs. You will design, implement, and deploy sensor-driven algorithms for 3D mapping, obstacle detection, and environmental awareness, forming the foundation of intelligent flight decision-making.

[Responsibilities]

* Develop and optimize perception algorithms for real-time environmental understanding, including obstacle detection, 3D reconstruction, terrain following, and semantic scene analysis.

* Integrate data from multiple sensors (camera, LiDAR, radar, IMU, GNSS) for robust sensor fusion and state estimation.

* Collaborate closely with planning, control, and SLAM teams to build safe and reliable autonomous flight stacks.

* Implement and deploy perception pipelines on embedded systems or companion computers (e.g., Jetson Orin, x86 platforms).

* Create mapping and localization solutions to support GNSS-denied, GNSS-assisted, or indoor flight operations.

* Test, validate, and tune perception algorithms using field-collected datasets, simulation environments, and flight tests.

* Contribute to dataset design, labeling, benchmarking, and continuous performance monitoring.

* Document architecture, code, and performance metrics for internal use and certification processes.

[Qualifications]

* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Vision, AI, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.

* 5+ years of experience developing real-time perception systems for autonomous platforms.

* Strong understanding of 3D perception, sensor fusion, and geometric computer vision.

* Proficiency in Python and C++ with experience in frameworks such as ROS/ROS2, OpenCV, PCL, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.

* Hands-on experience working with LiDAR, stereo/depth cameras, and inertial sensors.

* Experience with mapping, visual-inertial odometry (VIO), or SLAM for UAV or robotic applications.

* Strong problem-solving skills, with ability to iterate quickly in real-world environments.

[Preferred Qualifications]

* Experience in autonomous flight or robotics navigation in GNSS-denied environments.

* Familiarity with PX4/ArduPilot flight stacks and MAVLink communication.

* Knowledge of motion planning constraints, flight control interface requirements, and real-time system integration.

* Experience with simulator environments (e.g., Gazebo, AirSim, Isaac Sim).

* Background in safety-critical software development or aerospace certification is a plus.

[What We Offer]

* Work at the intersection of perception, autonomy, and intelligent flight.

* Collaborative and mission-driven engineering culture.

* Access to real UAV platforms, flight labs, and cutting-edge perception hardware.

* Competitive salary, full benefits, and career development support.

* Opportunities to impact the future of autonomous aerial systems.

[Additional Information]

* This position may require eligibility for defense-related or government security clearance.

* Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
