Title: Assistant Athletic Director for Mental Health and Performance The Assistant Athletic Director for Mental Health and Performance will lead the development, implementation, and oversight of a comprehensive mental health and sport psychology program for student-athletes within the 27 sport programs at Duke University. This person is responsible for providing professional sport psychology and mental healthcare, providing specialized crisis intervention and follow-up services, and coordinating outreach and consultation services for mental health as needed. Additionally, as a member of the Athletic Department Senior Staff, the Assistant AD for Mental Health and Performance will serve as a primary or secondary sport administrator and work closely with our Student-Athlete Development staff to plan leadership programming for student-athletes. The Assistant AD for Mental Health and Performance will report to the Deputy Director of Athletics/Student-Athlete Experience and work closely with athletics staff, coaches, and medical personnel, as well as campus partners such as Duke Reach and CAPS. Essential Functions: Provide leadership and oversight of department day-to-day and future operations. Lead and supervise department staff, which is currently three full-time providers. Develop a strategic plan, department policies, procedures, and best practices for the advancement of mental health and performance psychology services for student-athletes. Provide clinical services to student-athletes including evaluation, treatment planning, progress monitoring, re-evaluation, and possible referral. Serve as primary contact and facilitate high level of care services for emergency mental health presentations. Serve as primary contact for off-campus referrals related to mental health and performance. Identify educational outreach needs and relevant programming. Provide consultation and outreach services to coaches, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning, nutrition, and other administrative personnel regarding the psychological well-being of individual student-athletes and team members. Engage in counseling-related activities including, but not limited to, maintaining counseling records, referrals, and managing various organizational aspects of counseling cases. Consult with Duke athletic department personnel, parents, physicians, and campus partners for holistic care initiatives in support of the student-athlete experience. Maintain a clinical and sport psychology caseload comprised of student-athletes for both individual and group service provision. Manage baseline testing and intake assessments to inform individual psychotherapy, health and behavior interventions, and performance consultations. Comply with all Duke University, Duke Athletics, DSSI, ACC, and NCAA rules and regulations. Minimum Education and Experience: Master's degree in counseling or related field from an institution of higher education. Licensed or licensed eligible as a Professional Counselor in the state of North Carolina. Experience in a student mental health agency or relevant healthcare or social service setting. Preferred Education and Experience: Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical, counseling, sports psychology or related area from an APA accredited institution of higher education. Completion of an APA accredited internship in clinical or counseling psychology. Preferably three (3) to five (5) years’ experience. Prior experience working with student-athlete populations in a Division I athletic department preferred. Commitment to diversity and demonstrated competency in multicultural counseling skills. Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $67,618.00 to USD $138,000.00. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program. Master's degree preferred.
