Brief Description of the Position
Reporting to the City Manager, the Arts and Recreation Director oversees a department budget of $20 million for FY26 and is supported by 53.75 FTE. The ideal candidate will bring a strong commitment to both the arts and recreation and approach their work with enthusiasm, creativity, and strategic vision. This highly visible leader will be attentive and responsive to staff and stakeholders. High emotional intelligence is a must, as is maintaining an inclusive and equitable lens in all aspects of leadership.

Health Benefits - Choice of Kaiser or Blue Shield HMO or HDHP health insurance plans (15% employee contribution). Generous in-lieu payment to employees who show proof of health insurance coverage.

Dental and Vision Plans - Family coverage fully paid by the City.

Life Insurance and Disability - Individual coverage fully paid by the City.

Retirement Program - CalPERS 2% at 55 or 2% at 60 retirement plan OR for new employees hired after 1/1/2013 the benefit formula applicable under AB340 California Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA).


Employee PERS contribution of 7%*

401(a) Money Purchase Plan with City contribution of $10,000/year. 401(a) plan with a mandatory employee contribution.

Voluntary 457 Deferred Compensation and Retirement Health Savings plans are available. The City participates in the Medicare Program but does not participate in Social Security or the State Disability program.

Paid Leave and Holidays - General Leave accrues at the rate of 20 days the first year and progresses to 32 days at twenty-five years of service. There are twelve paid holidays per year and one floating DEIB holiday per year. Employees are granted 96 hours per year in Professional/Management leave.

Dependent Care and Medical Spending Accounts - Available to eligible employees on a voluntary basis.
Additional Benefits - Management Development Allowance, Tuition Reimbursement Program, Employee Assistance Plan, Wellness Program, Commute Alternative Program, Vehicle Allowance (applicable only to certain positions) and others.
