You are excited about this position because you will: Manage a section or division by planning, assigning, monitoring, and evaluating the work of subordinates. Review surveying or map requirements and resolve problems as needed. Manage the budget for survey. Collect and review survey notes or map applications for completeness and accuracy. Coordinate with other city agencies on requests for service, time schedules, and cost estimates. Develop, interpret, and coordinate surveying and map processing policy and methods for the department. Process and check subdivision map applications, plans, and survey records prepared by licensed land surveyors. Write and check boundary legal descriptions and perform other professional duties which require a licensed land surveyor. Manage horizontal and vertical control systems and implement and maintain Geographic Information System (GIS) base map system. Update codes and regulations and review proposed bills and budget, cost, and fee assessments. Prepare legislation to change official street legislation, approve subdivision maps, and refer same to the Board of Supervisors. Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned. How to qualify Four (4) years of experience supervising survey parties. Possession of a valid California Professional Land Surveyor License, or a valid California Civil Engineer License (issued in 1981 or before). Possession of a valid California driver license (at least Class C). Desirable Qualifications: Ability to communicate with public, management, clients, and other governmental and private agencies. Experience with managing, prioritizing, assigning, and coordinating the activities of survey staff. Familiarity with modern surveying equipment with GPS functionality and computing software. Experience with easements and legal descriptions.
